I'm based in Wigan, and the Wigan borough is where I've done most of my research. Around forty local businesses so far, looked at the way a customer would. Very few of them were short of work. They were losing it somewhere between a customer deciding to get in touch and actually reaching them.
What I found looking at Wigan businesses
Seen on their own public websites, the way a customer would see them. Nobody is named.
- Trades selling jobs worth thousands with no enquiry form on the page people actually land on, so every job has to start with a phone call during working hours.
- Showrooms and fitters open at weekends or late in the week, with no way to book a design visit or a survey online. The request sits in a queue until someone rings back.
- Firms paying several lead websites at once for enquiries, while their own site has nothing to catch someone getting in touch in the evening.
